USPS not accountable for delivering mail

Yeah that's right USPS, suck on that title. I recently ordered something which was not delivered to me, only an empty envelope with a stamp from the USPS admitting to losing just the item inside of the envelope, which needless to say; is a little suspicious. I called the USPS to resolve this and according to them if its lost or stolen and there is not insurance on it, its too bad....wtf.

So I emailed various news media with this story and here is the email;

It turns out that is a package is not insured that if an item is lost
or stolen, there are absolutely zero accountability for the lost or
stolen package. I received an empty envelope in the mail with a stamp
from USPS that reads; "Received Without Contents At GMF, Boston, MA
02205". I called USPS to see what can be done and they told me that
even though it is obvious that the item was stolen or lost during
transit within the mail system, the USPS will absolutely not do
anything regarding retrieval or compensation. This means that unless
insurance is purchased, there are no guarantee that the contents of
the package will even leave where you dropped it off. With holidays
around the corner during these hard economic times, I do not see this
getting better but clearly turning for the worse as there are no
measures in place to stop someone from stealing an item during transit
or caring enough for a package that it will be delivered at all.

use UPS, FEDEX, anyone but USPS as they are not held accountable to do their job

thanks for hearing out my thoughts
